more color studies

I started to work on that sketch couple of weeks ago but dropt it pretty quick. Decided to refresh it a bit and work around color palette to achive interesting results. I think Im pretty happy with it, altho some areas still are pretty weak.

Working on colors is something I found really exercising recently, as it is a challenge for someone without art-school background. When I'm trying to figure out which colors would fit best into compostion I'm trying to create, I sometimes regret I didn't pick up art school in a first place, to get solid workshop background. When you work in production, you rarely have time to think about in-depth about such a things, as you want to achieve best results with minimum effort. I wish I could have more time to play around colors and learn something more about it with better pace. It's just pure fun.

that picture is some sort of follow up for pretty decent popcorn movie I've seen a while back - Transformers. I'm not a real fan of that brand, but I thought vfx and movie overall was pretty ok experience. At least robots looked cool!

some pic rework

I wasn't fully happy with previous one... Decided to detail it out in sorta different way. I'm still not super happy with it either, tho will leave it as it is coz overworked stuff usually turns crap :)

Anyways, that was kinda nice excercise and little get-away from directing art stuff on daily basis, where there is just not enough time for beautiful paintings.

cudos to budapest guys

For those who are into FP shooter games, freaking cudos to Crytek Budapest guys. They did awesome job delivering warhead in such a shape and in such a short time. I didnt't personally have a chance to work on it, tho seen it in action and it rocks!

Came up with an idea for this environment after a short walk I had with my dog. There was beautiful moon shining on almost cloudless sky and it looked so fuckin cool I couldnt resist to paint something with that.

icebreaker brainfart

I like those days when ideas keep coming. The only thing that sometimes annoys me is when you really want to see good results of your brainfarts, but the longer you work on image, the further away you are from satisfying look of it. Thus I used some google to avoid wasting time on painting icebreaker from the scratch. One of photos just fit perfectly the angle and composition of picture I had in my mind, rest came along with custom brushwork and some texture overlaps from my old works. And there we go, couple of hours of work and I feel satisfied :)

Decided to spend some spare time and sketch out couple of environemnts. Most of those can be read as speed-paintings, done within short amount of time without too much atention on details, but mood and feeling. 3 of those for now...

First sketch made for last couple of months. Inspired by Blizzard's Starcraft 2 cinematics, I'll definitely buy this game when it comes out :)

Recap v2

It's been whole 3 years I've been working at Crytek. I'm pretty happy with results we've achieve. Crysis is out for some time around now, selling as good as we expected :) I'm really glad of all the feedback we've got on forums and fan community sites (incl. both positive and negative). The interest was and still is very high. Thanks for all that.

I'm not a concept artist here anymore. I will have to take care of more responsible task now, and lead new Crytek's projects with artistic vision in Art Director's position. The team here is great and encourages for giving extra effort to bring more awesomeness to gamers world. Hopefully our next game will define another quality bar among the industry.

Posting a pic, to make thing here more pretty to begin with.

Damn loads of time has past since I have last look at this blog, and since things has changed around, I decided to reorganize it, delete old crap, and post new things whenever they will appear.
