gates

Been into fantasy mood quite a bit lately...

I've also bought SLR camera, finally. Canon EOS 450D, nothing really fancy, just something I can start working with, having in mind shooting some textures and landscapes mostly. Weather is getting nicer outside, perhaps there will be plenty of opportunities to see how rich of reference material can Frankfurt and areas be. Lets see how it goes :)

1 more post for tonight, concept sketch I will want to use to produce little matte painting with some camera animations and ll kinds of crap.

the hunt for gollum

Havn't been around here for a while.. so figured out its good time to refresh the blog a bit.
Last 3 months were crazy.. I've been getting myself involved in quite intresting side project, The Hunt For Gollum. TH4G is a free online movie made by Tolkien's enthusiasts, 40 min long. What made this project special for me is not only the way it presents itself (it looks really awesome!), but also a great team of artists that have been involved in post production (that includes a couple of workers from Framestore).
My work for the project included couple of matte paintings as well as beeing Matte Painting Supervisor and running small team of talented and really cool artists. Posting an example here and you can find more of it on my website.

more color studies

I started to work on that sketch couple of weeks ago but dropt it pretty quick. Decided to refresh it a bit and work around color palette to achive interesting results. I think Im pretty happy with it, altho some areas still are pretty weak.

Working on colors is something I found really exercising recently, as it is a challenge for someone without art-school background. When I'm trying to figure out which colors would fit best into compostion I'm trying to create, I sometimes regret I didn't pick up art school in a first place, to get solid workshop background. When you work in production, you rarely have time to think about in-depth about such a things, as you want to achieve best results with minimum effort. I wish I could have more time to play around colors and learn something more about it with better pace. It's just pure fun.

that picture is some sort of follow up for pretty decent popcorn movie I've seen a while back - Transformers. I'm not a real fan of that brand, but I thought vfx and movie overall was pretty ok experience. At least robots looked cool!

some pic rework

I wasn't fully happy with previous one... Decided to detail it out in sorta different way. I'm still not super happy with it either, tho will leave it as it is coz overworked stuff usually turns crap :)

Anyways, that was kinda nice excercise and little get-away from directing art stuff on daily basis, where there is just not enough time for beautiful paintings.

cudos to budapest guys

For those who are into FP shooter games, freaking cudos to Crytek Budapest guys. They did awesome job delivering warhead in such a shape and in such a short time. I didnt't personally have a chance to work on it, tho seen it in action and it rocks!
